Dragon Boat Canada Officiating Certification Program
The Festival Official Course will continue to run virtually via Zoom and is open to interested participants across North America!
Alkame Dragon Boat Services, lead by Scott Murray, is pleased to work with Dragon Boat Canada to offer coaching, officiating and steering certification courses. We believe that establishing a strong base of intellectual infrastructure will enhance dragon boat racing's ability to experience healthy grassroots development. We are proud to be a part of the foundation of sport development.
Dragon Boat Canada has developed a customized course delivery program that emphasizes skill development, real-life scenarios, practical application and maximum peer and instructor interaction.

Primary Facilitator
Scott Murray
Scott is the current President of Dragon Boat Canada, the Senior A National Team Coach, the Owner/Operator of Alkame Dragon Boat Services, and the Head Coach for the Pickering Dragon Boat Club. Scott has coached, organized and paddled with crews that have competed Nationally & Internationally with great success for over 20 years.
His passion for sport is the emphasis for participation in this program. Scott has a desire to see broad-based growth and development of dragon boat racing through properly-trained coaches, grassroots and youth development programs.
Festival Official
The Festival Official certification program is the first stepping block to becoming a fully certified and trusted member of the dragon boat officiating world! This course is designed for anyone who would like to learn more about working behind the scenes at dragon boat events, and is the first step into working at events at a local, National and International scale.
This is a one-day, online course that will introduce you to dragon boat officiating at events and will have you certified the same day. However, in order to put your knowledge to use, we encourage you to follow the next steps of your development:
- Attend a local event as a volunteer official or assistant official
- Once you have gained some first-hand experience in that area, apply to work with a local dragon boat event organization as a paid official
- To move to the next level of officiating, apply to work with Dragon Boat Canada as a volunteer official or assistant official for the National Championships
- To go beyond National officiating, apply to take part in the Level 1 IDBF Officiating Course and let dragon boat officiating take you International!
Although there are no prerequisites for this course, we highly encourage you to become familiar with the DBC Rules of Racing.
